We spent the night at the Nakhon Phanom River View Hotel a high-quality hotel at a very low price. We had an acceptable room with a wonderful view over the Mekong River for 900 Baht, including an excellent breakfast buffet. We also had a good hour-long massage for 300 Baht, another bargain, and the low rates are year-round.
Only exception is in October when the city has its annual illuminated boat processions held during the Buddhist Lent (more information about this later on). This is the kind of hotel we could visit again and not have to worry about the cost. The staff was efficient, friendly and most spoke acceptable English.
